Two summer days in Karelia: Kizhi – Kivach – Kinerma
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Petrozavodsk
Meeting with the guide at the railway station.
Breakfast.
Departure for Kizhi Island by hydrofoil.
Excursion in the Kizhi Open-Air Museum of Wooden Architecture.
Kizhi is one of the first open-air museums and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Russia. The pearl of the museum is its world-known wooden church ensemble which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.
Transfer to Petrozavodsk by hydrofoil.
Transfer to Kivach Nature Reserve. You will visit waterfall Kivach, which is the second plain waterfall in Europe, the nature museum, and dendrarium, where you will get acquainted with typical local flora and fauna and with rare plants like Karelian birch.
Return to Petrozavodsk.
Dinner.
Day 2
City tour of Petrozavodsk. Petrozavodsk was founded by Peter the Great in 1703 on the banks of Lake Onego, in the first place as an iron factory and quarrying centre. The city, now capital of Karelia, has fine examples of the 18th century Neo-Vlassical architecture
Transfer to the Kinerma Village, which in 2016 became the most beautiful village in Russia. Nadezhda, a local resident of Kinerma Village, will meet us and show the main sights of the village, which are houses of the end of the 19th century and the wooden chapel of Virgin Mary of Smolensk erected in the 17th century. After the excursion around the village Nadezhda will invite you to her house to have a traditional Karelian lunch.
Departure for Petrozavodsk. Dinner.
Transfer to the railway station.
