Seasonal novelty – an audio guided tour to Tsarskoye Selo (also known as Pushkin). "Tsarskoye Selo" literally means "village of the Tsar/Tsarina", and this particular former Imperial residence is one of the most popular tourist destinations not only in Saint-Petersburg, but in Russia as a whole. The residence’s main landmark is the spectacular Catherine Palace, one of the largest palaces in the world named after Catherine I, Peter the Great's servant who later became his wife. Embark on a journey to the one of the Europe's most beautiful palaces and find out how a peasant's daughter became the sole ruler of the Russian Empire.
After Catherine’s palace became a favorite summer Imperial residence, large French-styled gardens were designed around the complex that is now known as Catherine Park, where you can go for a stroll at your own pace. Further changes to the palace were also made by empresses Elizabeth and Catherine the Great. A lover of ancient art, Catherine commissioned Scottish architect Charles Cameron for the renovation of interiors in neoclassical style, as well as the construction of bathrooms and royal living quarters. Almost completely destroyed during the Second World War, the palace was carefully restored and stands today as a monument to the wealth and glory of the Russian Empire and its female rulers.
Sightseeing stops: the Lyceum Garden, the parade-ground in front of the Catherine Palace, alleys in the Catherine Park.
